Apprenticeships: Myth Busting

Apprenticeships can lead to great career opportunities, whether someone is starting out in their career or embarking on a new path, but unfortunately there are still lots of misconceptions about studying apprenticeships and being an apprentice.

We've busted some of the myths about apprenticeships, to help provide a better understanding of apprenticeships.

MYTH: Apprenticeships are only for school-leavers

Apprenticeships can be undertaken by anyone above the age of 16, up to any age.

You can start an apprenticeship at any point in your career, meaning it is not just a route for school-leavers. We can offer apprenticeships to both new starters and existing members of staff.

MYTH: Apprenticeships amount to low level qualifications

Apprenticeship qualifications range from Level 2, all the way up to master’s degree (Level 7).

People can join our Apprentice Programmes at two apprenticeship levels:

  • Intermediate and Advanced (15 – 24 months apprenticeship)
  • Higher Degree (36 – 60 months apprenticeship)
MYTH: Apprenticeships tie you to one employer

Qualifications earned from apprenticeships are widely recognised and valued by many employers, meaning you can use your qualification to work for other employers.

We work with our training providers to attach accreditations to some of the apprenticeship programmes we deliver. This means that the programmes we offer come with widely recognised qualifications including:

  • Achievement Measure 2 by NET (AM2)
  • Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD)
  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants/Association of Accounting Technicians (ACCA/AAT)
  • Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)
  • Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC)
  • Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH)
  • NVQs/Diplomas
MYTH: Apprenticeships are only for trades

Apprenticeships are available across many industries and key job roles, with a number of these accredited by charted institutes.
