18 Whisley Brook Lane, Birmingham B28 8SR Ghulab Ashram
Ghulab Ashram is a spacious, purpose-built sheltered housing scheme for older people, situated in a quiet residential street in Hall Green, Birmingham. The scheme accommodates 44 people over the age of 60 with varying degrees of independence.
Individual flats, decorated to the resident’s preferences, allow for privacy and independence, while additional communal areas such as a lounge, kitchen and dining room also provide a secure, sensitive family style environment, with a large, well-established private garden. Ghulab Ashram also has a comfortable guest flat for overnight visitors. The house is located a short distance from local shops, amenities, and places of worship of several faiths.
While residents are encouraged to prepare their own meals independently when possible, meals prepared on site are also provided in the dining room. All food is based on individual needs and preferences, such as likes and dislikes, religious requirements and dietary and health needs. Separate facilities are provided for Halal and vegetarian meals. Menus are prepared on a weekly basis in consultation with tenants, and offer nutritional, balanced and healthy options, including a variety of cuisines, alternative choices and snacks.
Ghulab Ashram also promotes social interaction and continued learning and development, and residents can choose to take part in a wide range of activities on site, such as English classes and exercise sessions, as well as using local community facilities with appropriate support from staff where necessary.
