Ipstones Avenue, a large bungalow in a quiet Birmingham cul-de-sac, is home to up to five men with learning disabilities and complex needs. Staff are on hand around the clock to support and encourage residents to make choices and decisions in their everyday lives, increasing not only their confidence but also independence.

Based in a residential area of Stechford, Ipstones Avenue has extensive facilities to enable residents to develop and progress, with opportunities throughout the day for both socialising and privacy. The scheme has individual rooms and excellent shared facilities, including a Snoezelen sensory room and garden, which are multi-sensory environments, offering different smells, textures, sounds and sights to promote relaxation and stimulate mental engagement and communication skills. With local shops and amenities just a short walk away, residents have the opportunity to develop important life skills and their independence on a daily basis and as an active part of their community, increasing self-esteem and confidence.

Getting a placement
Referrals can be made by Birmingham City Council or by contacting the scheme directly. Admissions are planned with the customer and their family, carers and associated professionals. Information obtained helps to form an initial care and support plan, which is regularly reviewed and amended. Placements are funded by Birmingham City Council.
