A new dementia friendly art café is launching in Burton thanks to sponsorship from GreenSquareAccord who own and run Amber Wood, Burton’s Dementia Centre of Excellence.

GreenSquareAccord have sponsored the first three sessions, ensuring 30 free places are available for people living with dementia in the community. The dementia art café sessions aim to provide a safe and supportive place to make new friends, learn new skills and inspire positive feelings. Held at the Brewhouse Arts Centre, the sessions will use informed approaches, designed to provide multi-sensory stimulation.

Lucie Willday, Registered Manager at Amber Wood, said: “We are delighted to be engaging with the local community to offer this wonderful opportunity for those affected by dementia and their loved ones. We know from activities we run at Amber Wood, that art allows people to use their imagination which can help those living with dementia to feel more connected to the world and other people. We would encourage anyone who is living with dementia to book a place at the free sessions – carers are even welcome too!”

The dementia friendly art café sessions have been organised by East Staffs Borough Council, with the first three sessions taking place at the Brewhouse Arts Centre on 6th June, 20th June and 4th July between 10.30am-12.30pm. Booking is essential.

To book your place at one of the free sessions please call the box office on 01283 508100.
