We’re proud to have supported Headz Up in Dudley with a £2,000 grant to help deliver their new men’s mental health walking group.

Headz Up is a grassroots community interest company that runs youth clubs, men’s wellbeing sessions and one‑to‑one support. It’s become a trusted place for people who find it difficult to engage with traditional wellbeing services to build support networks and improve their mental health.

Our grant has specifically funded their Walkie Talkies project, a twelve-week walking support group for men. It’s held on summer evenings around nature trails, canals and parks in Dudley, in calm environments that make it easier for men to talk honestly about how they’re feeling. Many of the men who are part of Headz Up find it challenging to open up in clinical settings and work long hours so struggle to access daytime services.

Each walk includes gentle conversations about mental health, suicide awareness and recognising when someone needs help. One‑to‑one support is also offered for anyone who needs extra guidance. The aim is to improve mood, confidence and connection for men who may be feeling stressed, isolated or low in confidence, and to help them build simple wellbeing habits they can continue long after the project ends.

GSA customers are expected to benefit from the Walkie Talkies project as many who live in our homes in Dudley already attend other Headz Up sessions.

Our £2,000 funding helps to cover sessional worker costs, refreshments, wellbeing information packs and printed materials. This support allows the group to run safely, consistently and with the right level of care for participants.

Adam Bradley, Founder of Headz Up, said:

“Headz Up is making a powerful difference across Dudley, with GSA’s support playing a crucial role in supporting men’s mental health. Initiatives like Walkie Talkies provide a safe and welcoming space where men can come together, open up, and feel less alone.

“One of our attendees shared that we have really helped his mental health following a break up. This kind of support is essential in helping men build confidence, connection, and a sense of hope for the future.”

The grant follows a successful application to our Community Impact Fund, which supports projects that improve health and wellbeing, the environment, or life and employment skills for GSA customers. Grants of up to £2,000 per year are available to resident groups, community projects and local charities, made possible thanks to generous social value donations from our suppliers.
