Dedicated colleagues spent Saturday 10 October at Calne Town Hall, supporting an event aimed at providing practical advice and support to help people keep their homes warm this winter.

The event, entitled Warm Homes, Lower Bills, was organised by Chippenham MP Sarah Gibson and local advocacy group Sustainable Calne.

The session brought together local businesses, organisations and advisers who can help people understand the options available to them, from energy-efficiency improvements and renewable technologies to grants, funding and practical ways to reduce energy use.

Attendees were able to access guidance on:

  • Cutting energy bills
  • Grants, funding and financial support
  • Making homes warmer and more energy-efficient
  • Finding trusted energy advice

Representing GSA at the event were Nikki Kirwan, Healthy Homes Advisor; Wayne Richards, Contracts Manager; and Jason Morris, Maintenance Surveyor.

Nikki, who supports our customers in Wiltshire to live well, said: “The Warm Homes event was a great opportunity to engage with peer organisations and the wider public to share best practice in promoting healthy and comfortable living spaces.

“My colleagues and I were able to have some impactful conversations with Calne residents, which made the event a worthwhile use of a Saturday.”

The team offered advice to people living in all types of housing, covering topics ranging from how to tackle damp and mould to understanding tenants’ rights.

Sarah Gibson, MP for Chippenham, met with our GSA colleagues and thanked them for attending. She said:

“It was wonderful to have GreenSquareAccord join us for our Warm Homes, Lower Bills event in Calne. The event gave people renting from GreenSquareAccord the opportunity to speak directly with the team, discuss their concerns and hear how GreenSquareAccord can support them.

“For many tenants, making their homes warmer, healthier and more affordable to run can feel challenging, particularly when they are unsure where to begin. Being able to ask questions and hear directly about the help and advice available from GreenSquareAccord was incredibly important and valuable for residents.

“I am really grateful to the GreenSquareAccord team for giving up their Saturday to listen to local people, address their concerns and explain how they can help tenants make their homes warmer and more affordable to run.”
