Our colleagues in South Birmingham recently hosted a Health Awareness Day for customers and local residents, bringing essential health services, information and community support closer to home.
The event was organised by the Hall Green Neighbourhood Network Scheme (NNS), in partnership with Community Connexions, NHS Birmingham & Solihull and NHS Black Country, and took place on Wednesday 15 October at a children’s centre in Balsall Heath.
Attendees had access to a range of health services and information, including:
- BMI checks
- Blood pressure checks
- Diabetes information and guidance
- On-site cervical screening for women aged 25–64, with no appointment needed
- Cancer information, advice and support
The event also offered free refreshments and was supported by Community Connexions, Macmillan Cancer Support, Healthwatch Birmingham and Solihull, and Birmingham and Solihull Hospital.
Alongside health checks and advice, attendees could find out more about local activities, support groups and community services available in their area.
Thieba Bibi, Hall Green NNS Project Manager, said: “Events like this are a great reminder of the importance of bringing services closer to people, creating connections and making health and wellbeing conversations more accessible to everyone.
“A huge thank you to all our stallholders, partners, health professionals and everyone who came along and made today such a positive and meaningful event!
“We look forward to continuing to work together to support the health and wellbeing of our Hall Green community.”
Hall Green NNS supports people aged 50 and over, as well as adults aged 18–49 living with a long-term disability, who need help accessing health and social care. The scheme connects people with appropriate activities, support and services in their local communities.
Funded by Birmingham City Council since 2019, Hall Green NNS has been led by GSA since February 2022, following the award of a contract running until 2027.
