Colleagues from our Early Intervention and Prevention Team, worked with partner organisations to hold a community fun day in Sparkhill, Birmingham, earlier this month.
The event, held at St Christopher’s Church, was attended by more than 90 local families.
Attendees were able to:
- Take part in arts and crafts activities
- Read books with their children
- Enjoy toys and games provided on the day
- Take home free second-hand clothes
- Enjoy free refreshments.
Alongside opportunities to relax and have fun, families also had access to a range of advice and support services from local health teams and St Pauls, a family hub serving Balsall Heath.
Colleagues were on hand throughout the event to signpost women and children to available services. During the day, the Hall Green Household Support Fund Team also helped attendees complete 70 applications, enabling families to access additional support.
Dr Caroline Wolhuter, our Head of Innovation and Impact, said:
“The community fun day was a collaborative effort across the Early Intervention and Prevention Team, including the Hall Green Household Support Fund Team, Sparkbrook Children’s Zone, and the Hall Green Early Help Team.
“The success of the event demonstrated the power of joined-up working, ensuring families could access practical support, trusted advice, and have some fun all in one place.
“A huge thank you to all partners involved for making this such an impactful day for the Sparkhill community.”
A key focus of the fun day was engaging with the Roma community. The event was promoted to these hard-to-reach families using the NHS text messaging system.
The event was the last in a series of interventions supported by Birmingham Family Hubs to promote Family Hub Networks and support new parents with children under the age of two.
