We’re proud to be supporting Reach for a Star C.I.C, with a £2,000 donation from our Community Impact Fund.

Reach for a Star is a community interest company based in Darlaston, West Midlands. They have a mission to transform local health and social care by enabling and empowering communities to reach their full potential.

Our £2,000 donation will specifically fund their Active Stars project this summer.

Active Stars is a community-led wellbeing initiative to support Walsall families to improve their mental and physical health through regular, accessible, outdoor activity. It aims to reach families who may otherwise face barriers to traditional wellbeing programmes, such as lack of finances or local availability.

Free events are held every Saturday from 10am – 11.30am at George Rose Park in Darlaston and the regular turn out shows just how appreciated these events are by the local community.

The project was developed with help from the community after local people reported feeling isolated and lonely – particularly parents with neurodivergent children. Parents and children from all backgrounds are welcome to participate in fun physical activities and spend time together away from screens.

Sylwia Jurankek, Director at Reach for a Star and GSA resident, said:

“This funding enabled us to hire a facilitator to continue delivering Active Stars on a weekly basis. Our facilitator is a 26-year-old mom with a young baby, who lives in Darlaston. She’s passionate about physical exercise as it helps her mental health.

“The funding also allows us to purchase new games and interest-based incentives for the children who come on a regular basis.

“We are very grateful for this financial boost, which will help us make an even bigger impact in the local community.”

This donation was made possible by our Community Impact Fund. The fund is an initiative designed to benefit our localities and the people who live there. Grants of up to £2,000 per project are available for charities and community groups working to support local people.

Sian Every, our Community Investment and Social Value Lead, said:

“I’m so glad we could support Reach for a Star’s Active Stars initiative. It’s such a valuable resource for local people in Darlaston and has already created a fantastic community of parents and children. Exercise has so many physical and mental health benefits so to tackle any barriers to accessing it is a great result.”
