Final handovers complete at Canalside Close
Last week, we handed over the keys to 18 apartments within our Canalside Close development in Walsall. This completes the scheme with all the homes now occupied.
The Canalside Close development provides one and two bed apartments alongside houses with two and three bedrooms totalling 33 affordable homes. The apartments are all contained within one building known as Waterside House.
Rachel Wood, our Senior Development Officer, said: “By working in partnership with Keon Homes, LoCaL Homes and Walsall Council we have transformed underused industrial land into a thriving community of 33 affordable homes.
“Our Canalside Close development is within easy reach of several primary schools, a nursery and playing fields which makes it an ideal base for those with young children.”
Our Canalside Close scheme received planning permission in November 2022 with the first handovers taking place earlier this year . This rapid turnround was thanks to a successful partnership with Keon Homes and the use of off-site timber frame panels provided by LoCaL Homes.
All the new homes at Canalside Close were built using the low carbon LoCaL Homes Eco-200 off-site closed timber panel system, which also holds the NHBC accepts buildmark warranty. Not only does it support contractors to deliver high quality homes, it helped reduce construction times on site and achieve savings overall in terms of carbon release.
The external wall panels were finished with a brick slip system which came in a variety of colours and were applied and pointed in our Walsall-based factory during the manufacturing process further improving the quality of the development.
Mike Doolan, Sales and Partnership Manager at LoCaL Homes, said: “We were delighted to partner with Keon Homes and GSA to deliver 33 new, quality and affordable homes.
“Those now living at Canalside Close will benefit from reduced fuel bills thanks to a fabric first design approach and thermal efficient materials used in construction.”
Our new homes at Canalside Close are conveniently located as part of a developing residential area and are within approximately three minutes’ walk of bus stops and 12 minutes’ away from local shops by foot.
The scheme has generated a lot of interest and support from local stakeholders with Councillors, Eddie Hughes MP and Former West Midlands Mayor Andy Street all visiting Canalside Close during construction.
