We have secured 107 affordable homes at Bonnington Walk, with 55 available for social rent and 52 for shared ownership. Fellow housing association Bromford has purchased the remaining 78 homes making the scheme 100 per cent comprised of affordable housing.
With close to half of the homes at Bonnington Walk now occupied, Chair of the Homes and Housing Delivery Committee, Cllr Barry Parsons, recently visited the scheme to meet residents who have put down roots there.
The new homes, built on land sold by Bristol City Council to Legal & General, have been designed for maximum energy efficiency. Most of the homes will benefit from solar panels, helping to reduce residents’ carbon footprints and energy bills, as well as air source heat pumps – a low-maintenance and more environmentally friendly alternative to gas boilers.
This has resulted in Energy Performance Certificate ratings of A or B, which will help to minimise energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions.
Councillor Barry Parsons, Chair of the Homes and Housing Delivery Committee, said: “It is fantastic to see so many families already settling into their new homes at Bonnington Walk. This development demonstrates the positive outcomes that can be achieved through strong partnership working, helping us deliver much-needed affordable homes for Bristol residents.
“Schemes like this play an important role in addressing housing need while also providing high-quality, energy-efficient homes that will help residents reduce their energy costs and environmental impact.
“We are particularly pleased that, through the Lockleaze Local Lettings Policy, many of these homes will be made available to people with a strong connection to the local area. This helps ensure that local residents can benefit from new housing opportunities, enabling people to remain close to their families, support networks and local services.”
Half of all the rental homes at Bonnington Walk will be reserved for those on the HomeChoice housing register who have a local connection to Lockleaze, as part of the Lockleaze Local Lettings Policy.
Darren, who moved into the new estate last year through the shared ownership route, said: “Quite simply, the opportunity provided by GSA at Bonnington Walk has been one of the best things ever to happen to my family. We have moved away from the insecurity of the private rental sector and are now on the pathway to owning our home.”
Our last few homes, available under a low-cost home ownership scheme at the popular development in Lockleaze, are now on the market.
The homes for sale at Bonnington Walk are well appointed, with an oven, hob and extractor included in the kitchen. An air source heat pump and mechanical ventilation system provide an energy-efficient alternative to traditional gas heating.
