Last week, Housing Officers came together to facilitate a clean-up day in a Calne cul-de-sac.

The event was held on Linden Close, a densely populated residential area containing five three-storey blocks, where fly tipping has been a persistent issue.

At 9am on Wednesday 26 November, three large skips arrived on the close and our customers were encouraged to make use of them to dispose of any unwanted items.

David Shaw, our Locality Manager said: “Some of the families living on Linden Close have complex needs and limited household incomes, meaning that it can be more challenging to dispose of bulky household waste.

“The clean-up day was supported from the Locality Fund and organised by the Housing Officer, Amanda Ilsley. All of Team 7 in Locality 4 rolled up their sleeves to make the day a success. As well as providing a useful service to our customer, the clean-up day was a great team building opportunity and a bit of a laugh too!

“There is a strong sense of community spirit on the estate, and many embraced the chance to have a clear out. We hope this will reduce future incidents of fly tipping.”

All manner of items found their way into the skips ranging from old bikes, sofas, mattresses to a set of golf clubs with most households on Linden Close taking part in the event. Our colleagues also removed extraneous items from sheds and the communal gardens while finding time to rake up fallen leaves.

Positive feedback was received on the day from our customers who found the event to be very useful.
