We are delighted to have donated £1,000 to Community Safety Education (CSE).
The organisation specialises in financial literacy education for young people, combatting the increase of debt, poverty and gambling issues in the UK.
CSE work with young people in deprived and socially disadvantaged communities, who may be more vulnerable to predatory lending practices such as pay day loans or buy now pay later schemes. Online gambling is another risk to this demographic, who can be exposed through video games and develop behaviours that persist into adulthood.
Our £1,000 contribution will go towards CSE’s Moneywise project which engages young people in financial literacy education using contemporary content and relatable anecdotes. Specifically, it will be used in lessons at Melksham Oak Community School, where approximately 600 pupils will have access to Moneywise resources, lesson plans and worksheets.
Callam Smith, Project Manager at Community Safety Education, said:
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support from GSA, which will directly support young people at Melksham Oak Community School.
Technology blurs the line between gaming and gambling, and in an era where it’s easier than ever to ‘buy now and pay later’ online, it’s crucial that young people learn how to navigate these risks early on.
For many, this is their first opportunity to talk about money in a meaningful way. Through relatable and contemporary examples and interactive sessions, the Moneywise project encourages responsible habits and helps young people to feel more confident and open when discussing finances.”
Our Community Impact Fund is an initiative created to support community groups and charities in the areas we operate in. Grants of up to £2,000 are available to benefit our customers and their local communities.
Sian Every, our Community Investment and Social Lead, said:
“I’m thrilled we were able to help Community Safety Education and Melksham Oak Community School to teach financial literacy skills to young people. It’s important they feel confident discussing financial concepts and understand how to manage money.
I look forward to hearing more about the impact of the Moneywise resources.”
