Homes for South West meets MPs to pitch for more support to build social homes

Earlier this week, we supported a reception for parliamentarians and other key stakeholders in the social housing sector.

The reception was held in the House of Commons and organised by Homes for the South West; a leading group of 12 housing associations including GSA.

The MPs, Peers and key stakeholders in attendance at the reception heard how the Homes for the South West (HS4W) members are working together to unlock more affordable housing across the region.

The attendees also heard about H4SW’s track record between 2019-2024 and their plans for the rest of this decade.

Together the housing providers, who serve communities across South West England, have:

  • Provided 21,678 homes in the last five years
  • Planned to build another 18,546 homes before 2030

With the right support and policies in place H4SW partners could build a combined 32,712 additional homes in the next five years.

Our Chief Executive, Ruth Cooke said: “It was fantastic to hear about the work of the wider H4SW partnership and we had a strong turnout from South West elected representatives with support from colleagues at the National Housing Federation.”

“Speaking with one voice we made the case for investment and policy changes to deliver the homes that communities across the region desperately need. With the right support in place H4SW partners could build a combined 32,712 additional homes in the next five years.

“Special thanks to the event sponsors Damien Egan MP and Baroness Taylor of Stevenage.”

H4SW is a group of chief executives from some of the largest housing associations in South West England. Collectively the group own more than 250,000 homes and house half a million people.
