We hope everyone enjoys decorating their homes and celebrating with family and friends over the upcoming festive period.
To help keep our buildings safe for everyone, we are politely reminding residents that communal areas must be kept completely clear and free of any personal items or decorations.
This is to prevent fire spread and ensure escape routes remain safe for everyone.
Door wreaths
You are welcome to place a wreath on your own front door, as long as:
- It does not contain any lights, electrical items, or batteries as these could be flammable.
- It is hung using temporary, non-damaging fixings such as Command™ strips, rather than nails or screws.
Communal Decorations
For fire safety reasons, please do not place any decorations in shared spaces, including corridors, stairwells and entrance halls. This includes garlands, trees, ornaments, or wall hangings.
Schemes with colleague-managed communal lounges
Some of our sheltered or retirement living schemes have colleagues on site and purpose-designed communal lounges or activity rooms. These areas operate differently from general communal areas within blocks.
This guidance does not prevent festive decorations in colleague-managed lounges. Decorations may be allowed at the discretion of scheme colleagues, who will ensure that anything displayed is:
- Safe and appropriate for the space
- Does not block escape routes, fire exit signage, or firefighting equipment
- Does not introduce additional fire risks (for example, electrical items without PAT testing, unstable displays, or combustible decorations placed near heat sources)
Residents should not decorate these spaces independently; all decorations must be agreed, approved, and installed by colleagues at the scheme to maintain fire safety standards and protect everyone in the building.
If you are unsure whether your scheme has a colleague-managed lounge or need clarification on what is permitted, please speak with your Scheme Manager.
Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe during the festive season.
