We have worked with a fellow social landlord to secure 185 affordable homes at the innovative Bonnington Walk development in a North Bristol suburb.

Bonnington Walk, located in Lockleaze, provides a total of 185 homes - a mix of social and affordable rent, and shared ownership.

Our customer, Amy, who will soon be moving into Bonnington Walk said: “I am so excited to pick up the keys for my new home in Lockleaze- an up-and-coming area of Bristol which buyers like me are often priced out of. It feels amazing to get a foothold on the property ladder and I am grateful to the GSA team for all their support throughout the process.”

The new homes, built on land sold by Bristol City Council to Legal & General (L&G), have been designed for maximum energy efficiency.  Most of the homes will benefit from solar panels, helping to reduce residents’ carbon footprint and energy bills; and air source heat pumps, a low maintenance and more environmentally friendly alternative to gas boilers, resulting in an Energy Performance Certificate rating of A or B, which will minimise energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions.

We have purchased 107 affordable homes at Bonnington Walk, with 55 available for social rent and 52 for shared ownership. Our homes will be a mix of flats, two, three and four-bedroom houses and two-bedroom bungalows. This is the first time we will be providing affordable homes in the city of Bristol.

Mike Nolan, our Head of Development, said: “We are proud to have worked in partnership with L&G, local authority and fellow housing provider Bromford to secure new affordable homes in a city at the sharp end of housing affordability crisis.

“With an excellent energy performance specification as standard our customers will see benefits in low running costs at a time when it is needed the most.”

Half of all the rental homes at Bonnington Walk will be reserved for those on the Bristol City Council waiting list with a local connection to Lockleaze as part of the Lockleaze Local Lettings Policy. The first handover to rental customers is anticipated to take place next month. The remaining half will be allocated to people on the register from across the city.

Councillor Barry Parsons, Chair of the Homes and Housing Delivery Committee at Bristol City Council, said: “Creating safe and healthy neighbourhoods, with affordable, high-quality homes is one of the council’s key priorities, and working with partners is key to helping us achieve these goals.

"I want to thank both GreenSquareAccord and Bromford for the role they are playing in bringing Bonnington Walk forward and for working with us in addressing local housing need."

Bromford, which is part of 82,000-home Bromford Flagship Group, has now acquired 78 homes at Bonnington Walk with 58 earmarked for affordable rent and the remainder to be made available under a shared ownership scheme. Bromford’s new homes at Bonnington will cater to a variety of housing need by providing 25 three-bedroomed homes and 53 two-bedroomed homes.

Bromford’s Project Manager Robert Finch said: “This is a stunning development of high quality, energy efficient, affordable homes which will create a new sustainable community in Bristol. We’re sure our customers will enjoy many happy years living in their new homes here.”
